Hi there, I’m Grace
I hold a BA in Philosophy and English from the University of Sussex and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the Institute of Education, University College London (IOE, UCL). My academic background and teacher training have shaped the way I teach today, combining a love of language, literature and ideas with a strong understanding of how students learn.
My classroom experience includes teaching at an Ofsted-rated Outstanding grammar school in Orpington and an Outstanding comprehensive secondary school in Kent. Working with students across different abilities and educational settings has shaped my flexible, individual approach to teaching.
Away from tutoring, you will usually find me reading, enjoying a live theatre performance or indulging in afternoon tea. I also love being creative, particularly making paper flowers and trying different craft projects. Literature, creativity and curiosity are a big part of who I am, and naturally find their way into the enthusiasm I bring to my teaching.

Before becoming a full-time professional English tutor, I spent over ten years teaching in secondary schools. During that time, I taught students with a wide range of abilities, personalities and learning needs.
What I valued most was seeing students grow. Not only academically, but in their confidence and willingness to challenge themselves. That same belief continues to shape my one-to-one teaching today: every student has potential, and sometimes they need the right guidance to unlock it.

As both an experienced English teacher and GCSE examiner, I bring a detailed understanding of assessment objectives, marking criteria and the skills students need to demonstrate in examinations.
I use this insight to help students understand what exam questions are really asking, how marks are awarded and how to turn their knowledge into effective responses, while ensuring that lessons remain personalised to their individual strengths and areas for development.
My work as an examiner is conducted entirely separately from my tutoring, in accordance with all relevant professional guidelines, confidentiality requirements and conflict-of-interest policies.

I believe effective tutoring begins with understanding the individual student. Some need greater challenge; others need gaps filled, clearer explanations or simply the confidence to believe they can do it.
My approach is warm, structured and encouraging, while maintaining high expectations. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their own ideas because genuine progress happens when students feel both supported and challenged.
